What is the Dallas County Promise UTA Program?

DCP covers what's left after your other aid

Students who graduate from a participating Dallas County high school and meet UTA's admission requirements and Dallas County Promise deadlines may qualify by enrolling at UTA as a first-year student or as a transfer student with a Dallas College associate degree. If your family's Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) is $100,000 or less and you're eligible for the Federal Pell Grant and Texas Grant, your tuition may be paid through a combination of federal, state, and UTA funds. Any tuition still remaining after that is covered by the UTA Dallas Promise Last-Dollar Tuition Award, for 12+ credit hours each Fall and Spring. Two Ways to Participate

There are two tracks into the UTA Dallas Promise program, based on your situation at high school graduation. Find yours below.

Award duration: up to 8 consecutive semesters (4 years) at UTA
If you entered with an associate degree already earned, you must complete your bachelor's degree within 4 years or upon reaching 150 credit hours, whichever applies first
Ends earlier at 150 attempted credit hours or your first bachelor's degree, whichever comes first

Award duration: up to 4 consecutive semesters (2 years) at UTA
Must complete the associate degree at Dallas College within 2 years of high school graduation, then enroll at UTA. Fall enrollment only.

For students graduating and enrolling Fall 2027 through Spring 2028. You qualify as a first-year student (straight from high school, with or without an associate degree) if you meet ALL of the following:

Whether you're a first-year student or a Dallas College transfer heading to UTA for Fall 2027, your UTA admission application, your FAFSA or TASFA, and all verification documents are due by this date. Transfer students (Track 2) may only enroll in the Fall.

Renewal Requirements

Keeping the award

Renewal requirements are the same for both tracks at UTA. The Last-Dollar Award is applied only after TEXAS Grant eligibility and renewal requirements are met. Once enrolled, you must meet all of the following each year:

Submit a FAFSA or TASFA by the published priority deadlines, including all required supporting documents
Have a family Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $100,000 or less
Be a Texas resident for tuition purposes
Earn at least 12 credit hours at UTA each Fall and Spring semester (only UTA credits count)
Maintain a minimum end-of-academic-year cumulative GPA of 2.50, checked at the end of each Spring semester
Meet and maintain UTA's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards, as described in the UTA Undergraduate Catalog
Stay within your eligible enrollment period. This means continuous enrollment in 12+ credit hours each Fall and Spring, not exceeding 150 total attempted credit hours (including dual credit and transfer credit), before earning your first bachelor's degree
Meet TEXAS Grant renewal requirements

Does Dallas County Promise cover all of my costs at UT Arlington?

No. The UTA Dallas Promise Last-Dollar Tuition Award covers tuition and required course fees left over after all your other financial aid (Pell, Texas Grant, and other scholarships) is applied. You'll still need to budget for institutional fees, housing, food, travel, transportation, academic and personal supplies, parking, and other living expenses.

What's the difference between the two tracks?

Track 1 is for students who enroll at UTA directly after high school (with or without an associate degree already earned). The award lasts up to 8 consecutive semesters (4 years); if you entered with an associate degree, you must finish your bachelor's within 4 years or 150 credit hours, whichever comes first. Track 2 is for students who complete an associate degree at Dallas College within 2 years of high school graduation and then transfer to UTA in the Fall. What is the 150-credit-hour cap?

What happens if I skip a Fall or Spring semester?

Stopping out or dropping enrollment for a full Fall or Spring semester makes you ineligible for the program and the Last-Dollar Award, on either track. There is no appeal process described. The award only covers Fall and Spring; it does not cover Summer or mini-terms.

What if my GPA dips below 2.50?

You must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50, checked at the end of each Spring semester, a higher bar than most other Dallas Promise schools. If your cumulative GPA falls below 2.50 after the Fall semester specifically, you'll get a warning and remain eligible for the following Spring.

Can I get outside scholarships too?

Yes, you can receive other private and institutional scholarship funds. These will be factored into your overall financial aid offer. You must still accept all gift aid you're eligible for, including Pell grants, state grants, and scholarships.

Can I transfer my award to another school, or give it to someone else?

No. You may not transfer the funds to another college or university outside UTA, return to UTA and receive funds after or while attending another institution, or stop out during your eligibility period and expect to resume.

Are international students eligible?

International students are not eligible for this award.

What happens if I miss a Dallas Promise deadline?
